I’ve just finished watching the Cheetahs hand 52 points on the Edinburgh Monarchs.
It was another fantastic performance from the team, with our reserves outscoring their opposites 15:1. In fact, Cam and Luke had as many last places between them as Dayle Wood and Max Clegg did points. When you’ve got reserves pulling in points like that, and another thirty points coming from your heat leaders (including a four ride full max from Lewi), it means another win for the good guys. Special shout out to the Edinburgh livestream, which included six extra heats from the Norther Junior League, where the West Lothian Wildcats took on the Armadale Angels, and possibly the best commentating duo in speedway streaming. Far from the usual “homers” you get on club streams, the Edinburgh guys are refreshingly scathing about their own team when needed – for example, after surrendering another heat advantage to the Cheetahs in heat 3, they stated that “at least Bastain Borke wasn’t last out of the gate this time, so at least that’s something”. If you don’t fancy the 13 hour round trip to Armadale next time, I can recommend the livestream and a takeaway as a suitable alternative.
Last week we were finally able to offer programme boards in the track shop, and the initial batch of 100 sold out in less than an hour. It’s fantastic how popular they were, but I understand how frustrating it was for everyone after the 101st person to come to the track shop last week to be told they were all gone. I can only apologise to all of you who missed out for underestimating the demand so much. Before the shop opened I’d already spoken to the supplier to arrange another batch, which I upped to 200 once we had sold out. They won’t be here for this week’s meetings, but might be here the week after that. I will of course let everyone know when they’re available again, and hopefully we’ll have enough to at least last the week.
After the last meeting we were finally able to hand over the July Chargers Support donation, which went to Jacob Clouting. Jacob was actually the only Charger – apart from debutant Jason Garrad – who we hadn’t donated any money to so far this year, so it was a pretty straightforward decision for us to right that wrong with £200. We also handed over the August Chargers Support donation to Henry Atkins, who had a repair bill after coming off at Redcar a few weeks ago. We’ll be making another couple of donations to the Chargers as the year goes on, so keep your ear out for who the recipients are in September and October.
Last week we had an unclaimed raffle prize, and it was worth £100. If you’ve got ticket 03004 left over from last week come and see us and swap it for your winnings. We will of course be operating the Raceday Jackpot at both meetings this week, so if you miss us on the gate, go and catch Hilary in the upper bar. It’s still £2 for 3 chances to win either a cash prize, or a trip to the centregreen for you and a friend, and surely that’s worth it?
So this week we have two meetings, the Berwick Bullets and Plymouth Gladiators, both of whom are having pretty torrid seasons with only two wins between them in their respective leagues. That doesn’t mean that this week’s meetings are a foregone conclusion, but, that said, here’s to two more wins.
Go Chargers
Go Cheetahs
